Supplies: Scissors.
Preparation: None.
The object lesson & how I used it...
Main Point: We should obey God!
Illustration: Come to the front and show the boys and girls the scissors. Ask how many of them have ever used scissors before? Who knows what our parents, teachers, pastors, and just about every adult always tell us about scissors? What are we not supposed to do with them? That’s right, we are not supposed to run with scissors. Why is that though? I mean what if your mom really needs some scissors in a hurry, so run to the drawer they are in and then you run to give them to her. Doesn’t that make it ok? Why shouldn’t we run with scissors? You can then take some answers, and then explain that we don’t run with scissors because it can seriously hurt us. Even though it may seem like a faster and easier choice sometimes, ultimately running with scissors is a seriously bad idea!
Explanation: It is the same with our choices in a lot of our life. Sometimes some choices may seem like a good idea and maybe even fun it may end up hurting us in the long run. That’s why we should always check with God. When we look for God’s plan for our life through reading the Bible, and praying, we can find the absolute best choices for our life!

Object Lesson | Tempted By Candy
Source (Where I saw it): Original
Supplies: A clear bowl or container, candy, stool, paper
Preparation: Fill the container with candy and place it in the middle of the room with a sign saying please do not take. Make sure to know exactly how much candy is in the container before you do.
The object lesson & how I used it...
Main Point: Sometimes it is hard to do what is right, but God can help us!
Illustration: During the preservice, have a leader watch and see if anyone takes a piece of the candy from the container. Don’t make it obvious though, and be sure to give the kids the opportunity to take a piece. At some point toward the middle or end of service is when you should do the explanation.
Explanation of point: How many of you boys and girls noticed the bowl of candy in the middle of the room? Did anybody take a piece? Then count the pieces and see if they are all there. Ask the kids if it was hard to not take any with it being so open. Explain to them that even though it is hard to do the right thing, it always is better to make a stand. God will reward us for doing what is right, and we will better be able to see and follow His plan for our life. Once you count the pieces, if there are any missing you could say that it is always hard to admit when you’ve done something wrong, but coming clean is the right thing to do as well.

Supplies: Food Coloring, Glass of Water
Preparation: None
The object lesson & how I used it...
Main Point: Even one choice can have a big effect!
Illustration: Show the kids the glass of water. Explain to them that every choice we make can have a very big effect. Show the kids the food coloring and tell them what it is. Then place a few drops of food coloring in the water.
Explanation of point: Explain to the boys and girls that just a drop or two of food coloring changed the whole thing. Just like in our lives, a few choices can effect not only us but people and things around us. It is why we need to chose to listen to God and let Him help us make our choices. We want our choices to have a good effect!

The object lesson & how I used it...
Main Point: Every choice has a good or bad effect
Illustration: Show the kids the candy. Explain to them that you have a few choices to make. You have so many pieces of candy and with each one you can either eat it, give it away, throw it away, stomp on it, etc. Each decision has a different effect. Giving it away could make someone happy. Eating it would taste good. Stomping on it might make a lot of you angry.
Explanation of point: You see boys and girls, every choice we make in our lives can have various effects on ourselves and those around us. The more we let God guide our choices the more we will be able to have a positive effect on those around us.

Object Lesson | Donuts & Salt

Supplies: Two donuts, salt, plates
Preparation: Have one of the donuts filled with salt all over the bottom, or even better baked into the donut!
The object lesson & how I used it...
Main Point: Just because something looks good, doesn't always mean it is the best choice.
Illustration: Show the kids both donuts and ask them who wants one. Of course the kids will all say they do. Then explain that one of these donuts is not like the other. In fact one of these donuts you wouldn’t want to eat, because even though you can’t really see it, one of these has been completely covered in salt. So one of these would taste great, while the other would taste horrible! Explain that in life we always have choices to make, and sometimes the choices seem like they are both good, but in reality it could be hiding some bad consequences. That is why it is so important to trust God with our lives and involve him in the big decisions we make.

Object Lesson | Junk Food vs Healthy Food

Supplies: Junk food, and some healthy food
Preparation: Have the different kinds of foods on various plates up front.
The object lesson & how I used it...
Main Point: Temptation is a choice! Sometimes sin looks good and feels good at first, but there is always consequences.
Illustration: Tell the kids how hungry you are, and that you are looking for something to eat. You notice on the table there is some food! Now you have to make a choice. Do you go for the healthy food that will help you grow, and be more alert through the day, or do you choose the junk food that will taste really, really good now, but make you feel not so great later. You stare at the junk food, and then at the healthy food. Then explain to the children that sometimes we can be tempted with things that seem good, but in the long run will hurt us. If we ate donuts for breakfast lunch and dinner we would end up being very unhealthy! It is up to us to choose healthy things to put into our bodies. In the same way, we have to make right choices in life as well!

Supplies: Ding Dong (or some other kind of tasty treat)
Preparation: Buy a package of ding dongs by hostess or some other kind of treat!
The object lesson & how I used it...
Main Point: Temptation is a choice!
Illustration/Skit:One person comes up with their favorite treat - a ding dong! They are so excited about getting the last one. Their friend comes up and asks, “Is that a ding dong! Those are my favorite!!!” The first person agrees that Ding Dongs are the best. The first person then gets called out of the room by someone. Before they leave they tell the second person if they could watch their Ding Dong and make sure none of the kids eat it. Once the person leaves the second person starts staring at the ding dong, acting like they can’t control themselves. They unwrap it and look at it lovingly. Then just before they eat it the first person runs back in and yells STOP! They take back their Ding Dong and walk away. The second person goes after them saying “I was only looking at it!”

Supplies: Video Game Controller, or A Video Game, and a list of Cheat Codes.
Preparation: Make sure to have printed out a list of cheat codes
The object lesson & how I used it...
Main Point: The easy way is not always the right way!
Illustration: Ask the kids how many of them like playing video games. Then ask them who likes to just play and who likes to beat each game! Talk about how when you get a new video game you want to try and beat every level and get every secret. Now ask the kids who likes to use cheat codes? Explain how cheat codes can make the game a lot easier, but at the same time it takes away from the game. You aren’t really beating it, you are taking the easy way out. Now explain how in video games cheat codes can also make the game fun, and there is nothing wrong with using cheat codes. In life though, there are times where we will be tempted to take the easy way out, like cheat on a test, or copying your friends homework, or letting your friend copy yours. When we try to take shortcuts in life it can hurt us, and it isn’t doing the right thing. God wants us to do the right thing, and when we trust him, he will help us make the right choice.
