Supplies: Different color craft sand and a see through (glass or clear plastic) bowl.
Preparation: None.
The object lesson & how I used it...
Main Point: God is always with us.
Illustration: Come to the front and show the boys and girls the sand. Ask them how many have ever made anything with these different color sands before. You can make all sorts of different things with the craft sand. Now once you mix the different colors can you separate them and start over (At this point actually mix the two colors into the bowl)? No! It would be almost impossible to fully separate the sand.
Explanation: It is the same way with us and God. Once we give our hearts to God, there is no separating us from Him. God will never leave us, and will always be there to help us. God sticks with us no matter what. It is why we don’t need to be afraid and can always know we can count on God even if other people let us down.

Object Lesson | Accepting Money
Source (Where I saw it): Original
Supplies: Some coins, a few dollars
Preparation: None.
The object lesson & how I used it...
Main Point: God loves, accepts, and wants all of us.
Illustration: Ask the kids if they have ever paid for something at the store. Now ask them how do people pay at the store for their items, like what kind of things do they use. That’s right, some people pay with cash, some people pay with a check or a bank card. There are all sorts of ways to pay. Now lets say that I decide to pay with cash. Does it matter if I use pennies, nickels, quarters, dollars, etc? Of course not, because money is money. It may be different, and have different characteristics, but it is all worth something.
Explanation: You see boys and girls, it is the same with us! God values and loves each of us. We all may have different characteristics, talents, and we may act differently, but God loves us all just the same! God sent His son, Jesus to save all of us!

Preparation: Have a bucket of various candies ready. The more diversity the better.

Main Point: God loves, accepts, and wants all of us.
Illustration: Show the group the bucket of candy. Start pulling out different pieces of candy and asking if someone would want it. Then pull out a different kind, describe it and then ask if anyone wanted it. Do this a few times, and you can even hand out a few pieces to those that are well behaved.
Explanation: You see boys and girls, every single one of you were trying to get a piece of candy. It didn’t really matter which one, you were constantly raising your hand for one because you know that candy tastes really good. God is the same way with us. Even though on the outside we are all different we have one thing in common with every single person on the planet. No matter if a person is young, old, rich, poor, healthy, sick, tall, short, or anything else we were all created by God. We are all also loved by God. Because of that fact and that connection we should be nice to everyone, and by being nice and doing the right thing we can show others that God loves them!

Object Lesson | Calendar Change

Supplies: Two Calendars, one old (As old as you can get) and one current.
Preparation: None
The object lesson & how I used it...
Main Point: It is our choice to follow God's plan!
Illustration: Show the kids the two calendars. Ask them what you are holding. Explain to them yes thats right these are calendars. Now I have a calendar from 1977 and one from this year 2011. Which one do you guys think I should use for this year? Well of course I have to use the one from this year 2011. If I used this old one I would have a lot of dates wrong and of course this calendar has already been used.
Explanation of the point: You see boys and girls if we always do the things we have always done nothing will change and it actually messes us up. Things are always changing and so are we. It is up to us how we change though. We want to plan and change for the better! We want to say that we are closer to God, and following God’s plan for our lives better this year than last year!

Preparation: None
The object lesson & how I used it...
Main Point: We need to fill up our life with God's choices!
Illustration: Come to the front and show the kids the white board. Tell them to imagine that this white board was their life. As we live each day we fill in the board sometimes good and sometimes bad. Ask the kids for some different things they can do that are good and bad. Take 3-5 good things and 3-5 bad things. Examples would be: Good - Visit Grandparents, clean room, listen to parents - Bad - fight with siblings, talk back to parents, not listen to teachers. Make sure to write these things on the board. Then explain to them that the New Years is a time to evaluate last year and try and make changes for this year. Erase the board and ask the kids what will you fill in your life this year?

Preparation: None
The object lesson & how I used it...
Main Point: God gave us the greatest gift of all time!
Illustration: (We did this illustration right after showing Charlie Brown’s Christmas when Linus tells everyone the real meaning of Christmas.) Come up tell the kids about how Linus is right. You see boys and girls Christmas is all about God’s love. It is a story of God’s plan in the works to save us b/c He loves us! Show the kids the toy. Explain to the kids how this is your absolute favorite toy. You used to bring it everywhere with you when you were young. Nothing could separate you from this toy. Even recall a time when you thought you lost the toy and were so upset until you found it. Now explain to the kids that Christmas is a time to remember when God sent His son, Jesus, to the earth. He gave us His son! It would sort of be like me giving this toy away, but God took it a step further. God loves us so much that He gave us Jesus knowing that the only way to save us was for His son to die. On a smaller scale, it would sort of be like if I gave this toy to someone who I knew would destroy it. Now take markers and start drawing all over it. Then take scissors out and cut up the toy.
Explanation of the point: You see boys and girls, Christmas is all about God’s love. God gave his son to die for us. We can live because of the sacrifice of Jesus. The great thing is Jesus didn’t stay like this. Jesus rose form the dead, and now, the Bible tells us sitting in heaven with God praying for us.

Supplies: Table with fold up legs, an object of some kind. (It is very funny if you actually use yourself as the object)
Preparation: None
The object lesson & how I used it...
Main Point - When we give, God uses our offering to support the church, so that the church can reach out!
Illustration: Go up front and set the object on the table. Explain that because the table has four legs it can support the weight of this object and many more objects. Now ask the kids what would happen if we removed two of the legs? Fold up one side of the legs. Now place the object on the table. It will slide off and fall on the ground. Explain to the kids that without the support the objects fall onto the ground. The table isn’t as effective as it can be.
Explanation of the point: You see boys and girls when we give our time, money, and effort to the church we help support it and all the things the church does. This pleases God, because we are helping to share our love with others around us!

Supplies: A Rope
Preparation: None
The object lesson & how I used it...
Main Point: Even if we can only give a little, when we add up what all of us can give it can make a huge difference!
Illustration: While up front, explain to the kids that you are pretty strong and if you did tug of war with most of the kids in here you would win. Then you are going to demonstrate. Choose someone small and of course you are going to win. Here is where it changes. Pick another small child, and then another, etc. Eventually, with 10-12 small children they will overpower you. Then explain, even when we give just a little bit it all adds up when everyone gives and eventually has a huge impact!

Supplies: A Pen
Preparation: Take out the insides of the pen.
The object lesson & how I used it...
Main Point - We need to go to God! Real faith means being able to trust God in everything!
Illustration: Show the kids the pen. Ask them what a pen is for and take a few responses. After a few explain to them that a pen is used to write things down. You could right down a phone number for a friend, or a journal about your life. People have used pens to write books, and notes, and grocery lists. It can be used for an endless amount of things, but not this pen. This pen has nothing to it. There is no ink. Click the pen a few times to show the kids there is no insides. Now explain that many people who call themselves Christians and say they have faith in God don’t. They always try to accomplish everything on their own, and don’t just give it to God. When we do that, when we say we have faith, but then always try to do everything on our own and worry, its like being an empty pen. God wants to do so much through us, like a pen can be used for many things, but without faith - true faith - all we are is an empty pen.

Supplies: A piece of fruit, board, screws, and other random items
Preparation: Gather supplies
The object lesson & how I used it...
Main Point: We need to go to God!
Illustration: Walk up to the front explaining that you have a big job to complete. You have to screw these screws into this board! So you put the materials down and then you go through your tools (Have some random items as “tools”). Then you say you know which tool to use! It’s the piece of fruit. At this point the kids will be saying no, you are wrong! You then try to screw the screws in with the piece of fruit. Of course this doesn’t work. Now ask the kids what should you have used? Then explain that there are a lot of people that say they have faith in God, but then never go to him. We say we trust him, but then never give our lives fully over to him. If we really have faith in God, then in every situation we have to trust he has our best interests at heart and jump in!

Preparation: Have one of the donuts filled with salt all over the bottom, or even better baked into the donut!
The object lesson & how I used it...
Main Point: Just because something looks good, doesn't always mean it is the best choice.
Illustration: Show the kids both donuts and ask them who wants one. Of course the kids will all say they do. Then explain that one of these donuts is not like the other. In fact one of these donuts you wouldn’t want to eat, because even though you can’t really see it, one of these has been completely covered in salt. So one of these would taste great, while the other would taste horrible! Explain that in life we always have choices to make, and sometimes the choices seem like they are both good, but in reality it could be hiding some bad consequences. That is why it is so important to trust God with our lives and involve him in the big decisions we make.

Preparation: None... Maybe some practice time for the two leaders
The object lesson & how I used it...
Main Point: We are the light of the world! Matthew 5:14
Illustration: Lights go off and then, both people try to walk up to the front. They end up walking into things and complaining about how dark it is! They ask who turned out the lights anyway! As they stumble around one of them notices a small flash of light. The first one asks what was that. The second person answers, oh that is my flashlight. The first asks him why he has it hidden under his shirt instead of showing the way so they aren’t running into things in the dark. The second person says, I don’t know... I can take it out if you want. The first yells YES!
Main leader comes out and explains as they leave the room and turn the lights back on that many of us are hiding our lights. When we ask God into our life, we have the light of the world in us! God doesn’t want us to hide that light, but to let it shine. God wants us to share him with our friends, families, and everyone!

The object lesson & how I used it...
Main Point: We need to share our relationship with God with everyone!
Illustration: Walk up and talk about all the lovely items you have. Explain that someone gave you a lifetime supply and you have sooooooo much of it that you have no idea what to do with it. Tell the kids you have been eating it all day and all night and still can’t get through it. Then ask the children if they would like some. When they say yes, act like you are going to give it to them but then don’t. Explain that you need it all for yourself. Isn’t that fair? Now Explain: You see boys and girls it isn’t fair that I would keep all this candy that was given to me. In fact it is the opposite! It is very selfish of me to keep it all. Hand a few pieces out. It always feels better to give to people. Boys and girls, God gave us a gift. He gave his son to die on the cross for us. That is how we can have God as our best friend. Jesus told us to share that with everyone around us, and when we don’t its like keeping all the candy for ourself.

Main Point: People should know we love God!

It also is used to make food last longer. The biggest thing about salt is that when it is still good you can taste it on anything it gets on. Pour it on the different foods. Preparation: Prepare two lunches with one being good and something you would want to eat, and the other with random, and disgusting things no one would eat for lunch.

As you pull out all the bad items no one would eat the kids should be saying things like gross and disgusting! Have fun with this, and make it sound like you would love to eat all this. Then tell the kids of course no one would want to eat any of this! Now pull out the good lunch box. Show the kids all the good and nutritious food. Ask them how many would want to eat this one! The object lesson & how I used it...
Main Point: God is always there for us!
Illustration: Show the kids the stuffed animal or favorite toy that you have. Explain to the kids that you love this toy. In fact, you take really good care of it. Ask a few of the kids what is their favorite toy. Then ask them if they would take their favorite toy and throw it down stairs or light it on fire? Of course not! We take care of the things we love. God is the same way with us. God wants to be there for us in the good times and the bad times. It is just a matter of us letting Him be there. God loves us!

Illustration: Show the kids the stuffed animal or favorite toy that you have. Explain to the kids that you love this toy. In fact, you take really good care of it. Ask a few of the kids what is their favorite toy. Then ask them if they would take their favorite toy and throw it down stairs or light it on fire? Of course not! We take care of the things we love. God is the same way with us. God wants to be there for us in the good times and the bad times. It is just a matter of us letting Him be there. God loves us!

The object lesson & how I used it...
Main Point: God cares about every detail of our life!
Illustration: Show the kids the sand. Ask them who loves the beach? How many of you went to the beach a lot this summer? How many of you want to be at the beach right now? The beach is a great place. Isn’t it crazy how little each grain of sand is? I mean, how many millions upon millions of grains of sand does it take to make one single beach. God took the time to create all this sand. He pays attention to every tiny detail of his creation. The Bible tells us that he knows how many hairs are on our head. We can know that God loves us and is interested in every aspect of our lives.

Supplies: A story book - preferably a choose your own adventure story book (Make sure it is an appropriate book)
Preparation: None
The object lesson & how I used it...
Main Point: When God is our #1 we have a much better chance to live a fulfilling life!
Illustration: Show the kids the story book. Explain to them that in a story the main character has to make choices. You can go into the main character of the book you use and the choices they have to make. Explain that each choice leads the character down a certain path. Sometimes the character is a hero and saves the day, while other characters choose to be villains and try to destroy the world. The explain that each and every one of us is living out our own story book. Each day we make decisions that lead us down a specific path. How many people in life want to grow up and be in jail? How many people grow up and say they want to hate what they do? How many people grow up hoping to regret all the choices they made in their life? Of course not! So many people make small choices each and every day that lead them down wrong paths. We need to put God first in our lives. If we learn to hear God and put God first in everything we do, you can grow up finding a life that is fulfilling and rewarding, but the choice is yours! Each choice you make is your choice, not your parents, not your siblings, and not your friends. Put God first in your life, so your choices can lead to a better future surrounded with God’s love and mercy!

Supplies: Video Game or Controller
Preparation: None
The object lesson & how I used it...
Main Point: God needs to be our #1
Illustration: One person comes up hugging and holding a video game controller. They are talking to it like it is the best thing in the whole world, and how much they love it. Go as fas as to dance with it! Just tell it how amazing it is and how the video game has changed your life. Then the leader says, they are interrupting a bit, and the person says who cares, the whole world needs to know about my controller! I will shout it from the mountain tops! They then run out of the room. Then the leader explains that many of us do the same thing. We may not do it like that, but when we choose to not listen to our parents to finish our game or whatever we are doing we are putting that first in our lives. God needs to be first in our lives, but many of us only think about God and our relationship with him at church.

The object lesson & how I used it...
Main Point - God needs to be our #1
Illustration: Two people come in with their hands filled with candy. They talk about how much they love candy! They then start asking each other which is their favorite out of the candy they have. They go into detail about ranking the candy, taking each kind and describing its sugary goodness. Make sure to talk about how it smells and tastes and everything! After ranking them, and you can use the kids to help you by asking them, walk out talking about how and when you are going to eat it all. Then the leader comes up and explains that in life we all rank our activities and goals. Some of us will put our games first, others will put our activities like soccer and baseball first, still others will put their friends first in their lives. All those things can be good things, but they do not lead to a great, fulfilling life. The way to have a live that is fulfilling is to put God first.
