Object Lesson | Paper vs Table

Source (Where I saw it): Original

Supplies: A table, a piece of paper, and other various items

Preparation: Fold the paper so it looks like a table.  You will be placing items on top to see if it can hold them.

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: God will never let you down!

Illustration: Show the boys and girls the various items and ask them which they think can hold them up.  Will the table be able to hold all these things without collapsing?  How about this piece of paper?  Try putting the item or items on each.  The paper will crumble and not be able to hold just about anything.

Explanation: You see boys and girls, God is like the table here.  No matter what happens we can count on God to not fall through.  If God makes a promise, then it will happen.  People can be like the paper a lot of times and let us down, but luckily we have a heavenly father that will never let us down!

Object Lesson | Building Blocks

Source (Where I saw it): Original

Supplies: A bunch of building blocks

Preparation: None

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: Obedience gets easier the more you do it.

Illustration: Show the boys and girls the building blocks.  Ask them who likes to build things.  Ask what are some things you have build out of blocks or legos, etc.  Then start building a tower.  Explain that if you want to build a tall structure then you have to build the foundation right.  If not the whole thing will fall.  With each piece and support block the building will get stronger, and taller.

Explanation: Obeying God is the same way.  It may be scary at first to invite a friend to church, or tell someone about God, or to do the right thing, but the more you do it, the easy it becomes.  You it is just like the blocks.  As we allow God to take control we are letting him build courage in us, and with each fear we overcome the more we know we can trust God with everything!

Object Lesson | Dirty Water

Source (Where I saw it): Original

Supplies: A glass of clean water, and dirt from outside, coffee filter or some other filter

Preparation: Be sure to have some dirt and some clean water.

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: Wrong choices add up.

Illustration: Show the boys and girls the clean water.  Explain to them that our life is like this glass of water.  As we make wrong choices, they start to add up.  Slowly throw in pieces of the dirt.  We may not think telling one little lie here, or cheating off someone’s homework, or disobeying out parent's are that big a deal in the moment, but as we make more and more wrong choices our life gets dirtier and dirtier.  This isn’t what God wants our life to look like!

Explanation: God will forgive us and clean us out though if we ask.  The best choice we can make is to love and obey God.  God loves us and has our best interests in mind.  Pour the dirty water through the filter.  It probably won’t be perfect but you can explain that when we give our life to God he constantly is cleaning us out.  Being a christian is a life long process, we don’t become perfect overnight.  We just have to try to make the most right choices as we can every day!

Object Lesson | Prize Giveaway!

Source (Where I saw it): Original

Supplies: A couple of pieces of candy or prizes.

Preparation: None

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: We need to ask God for forgiveness!

Illustration: Walk up to the front, sit in a chair or on the table, and hold up the couple of prizes.  Tell the boys and girls that you have some prizes here.  Now do one of two things:

1.If someone raises their hand and asks for a prize, or even calls out and asks for one then give it to them.

2. If no one raises their hand, or asks for one, then say, “Well, I guess no one wanted one, I’m gonna go put them away now.” Then put them into the prize box and lock it up.
Explanation of point: You see boys and girls, the whole point of this is that God has offered us forgiveness and salvation, but it is up to us to accept it.  God wants to save us, He even sent His son to die for us!  But unless we ask God to forgive us, then we are missing out on all that God has for us including eternal life!

Object Lesson | Change Bag - God Sees More!

Source (Where I saw it): Original

Supplies: Change bag, blank sheet of paper, paper with heart on it.

Preparation: Fold up the paper with the heart on it and put it in one of the secret pockets in the change bag.

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: We can be an example, God sees the inside!

Illustration: Show the kids the blank sheet of paper.  Explain to them that we start out just like this paper.  We are whole.  As we go through life, it can tear us apart.  People may tell us what we aren’t good at, or how we aren’t worth anything.  Be ripping the paper with each thing.  Tell them sometimes people will tell you that you aren’t smart enough, or tall enough, or good looking enough, etc.  And each time this may tear us apart a little more.

Explanation of point: But God doesn’t see us like this.  God knows what He put into us.  He knows that we can be an example, and He wants us to be whole.  All we need to do is turn our lives over to Him.  Place the ripped pieces into the change bag after showing the kids it is empty.  Then pull out the whole sheet with the heart.  Explain that God wants us to be whole and that He can see things no one else can, because He made us!  When we trust our lives to God we can be just like David and be an example!

If you don't have a change bag, here is one to check out at amazon, it has a zipper on the bottom for extra coolness:  Change Bag W/ Zipper

Object Lesson | Keys

Source (Where I saw it): Original

Supplies: Some car keys

Preparation: None

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: We need to let God lead us!

Illustration: Show the kids the keys.  Ask them if they know what the keys do.  You can take some answers and hopefully one will get it right and say they are keys to a car.  If not after a few guesses just tell them.  Explain that whoever has the keys of the car is in charge of the car, right?  If your parents are driving you around they are ultimately in charge of where you go.  You trust them not to drive you off a cliff or into the ocean.

Explanation of point: We need to trust God with the keys to our life.  If we truly believe that God is in control and what His plan for our life then we truly have to trust and follow Him.  What would happen if you jumped out of the car while your parents were driving?  That’s right you could get seriously hurt, and wouldn’t get where you needed to be.  God wants to help us get where we should be in our life!  He has a plan!

Object Lesson | Instructions

Source (Where I saw it): Original

Supplies: Instructions for a building or operating something and then something completely different.

Preparation: None

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: We need to follow God’s plan

Illustration: Show the kids the new item you have.  Explain that you are trying to learn how to use it.  you are so excited about your new item.  Then pull out the wrong manual.  Show the boys and girls the manual, and say you will be reading this to learn how to use your new item.  Ask them if they think this is a good idea.  Of course not!

Explanation of point: So many people try to plan out their life following the wrong manual.  God created everything and has a plan and purpose for us.  When we follow God and look for His plan, it is like following the right instructions for a new toy or game!

Object Lesson | Popsicle

Source (Where I saw it): Original

Supplies: Cup, Popsicle Stick, Kool-aid, Water

Preparation: Gather supplies

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: Prayer is powerful if we do it!

Illustration: Show the kids the supplies to make a popsicle.  Ask the kids if they like popsicles, and if they have ever made their own.  Show them the supplies and explain that all they need to make a popsicle is right here.  All you have to do is put them together, but if I leave them like this I will never see the popsicle.

Explanation of point: Explain to the boys and girls that it is the same way with prayer.  God wants us to be proactive and to ask and pray to Him.  There are some amazing things that can happen if we have faith and pray.  If we don’t pray who knows what we are missing out on!

Wednesday, August 17, 2011

Object Lesson | Cap Gun

Source (Where I saw it): Original

Supplies: Loaded Cap Gun

Preparation: Make sure the cap gun is loaded

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: Prayer is powerful if we do it!

Illustration: Show the kids the cap gun.  Ask them if any of them have ever used one.  Explain to them that if you take the time to load the cap gun and then pull the trigger it can be very loud and a great toy.  If you do not pull the trigger, there won’t be a loud powerful noise though.

Explanation of point: Explain to the boys and girls that prayer is the same way.  If we believe and have faith that God can do miracles and that prayer is powerful it is like we are a loaded cap gun.  The next part is actually pulling the trigger, which is prayer.  Amazing things can happen when we pray, but so many people don’t!  Take the time to pray!

Object Lesson | Different Chair

Source (Where I saw it): Original

Supplies: Different seat from others in the room

Preparation: Make sure to have a different kind of chair in the room from the beginning.  A comfy chair would be perfect because then all the kids will want to try and sit in it.

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: We should stand out from the world

Illustration: Ask the kids who noticed that one of the chairs in the room were different than the others.  Ask them who wanted to sit in that one during service?  Ask them why.  Most of the answers will be things like the chair is different, or comfy, or special, etc.

Explanation of point: Explain to the boys and girls that it is easy to notice that chair b/c it is very different from the other chairs in the room.  Our lives should be the same way.  When you are with your friends, or in school surrounded by people do you stand out?  Are you any different?  Our actions, and speech should make us different.  The fact that we love God and have a relationship with Him should set us a part.  We should treat others with respect and let God’s love flow through us.  So the question is are you different?

Object Lesson | Out of Place

Source (Where I saw it): Original, although the idea came from the classic Sesame Street segment

Supplies: Powerpoint with different pictures on each slide.  3 should be alike and 1 different.  If you don’t have this capability, grabbing various objects will work too.

Preparation: Make the slideshow.

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: We should be different!

Illustration: Go through the slides with the kids and let them figure out which of the pictures doesn’t belong.

Explanation of point: Explain to the boys and girls that we should stand out among other people too.  If we really have a relationship with God, then our actions and words should make us seem different than others.  What we do should show God’s love to those around us.  We should be different!

Object Lesson | Tempted By Candy

Source (Where I saw it): Original

Supplies: A clear bowl or container, candy, stool, paper

Preparation: Fill the container with candy and place it in the middle of the room with a sign saying please do not take.  Make sure to know exactly how much candy is in the container before you do.

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: Sometimes it is hard to do what is right, but God can help us!

Illustration: During the preservice, have a leader watch and see if anyone takes a piece of the candy from the container.  Don’t make it obvious though, and be sure to give the kids the opportunity to take a piece.  At some point toward the middle or end of service is when you should do the explanation.

Explanation of point: How many of you boys and girls noticed the bowl of candy in the middle of the room?  Did anybody take a piece?  Then count the pieces and see if they are all there.  Ask the kids if it was hard to not take any with it being so open.  Explain to them that even though it is hard to do the right thing, it always is better to make a stand.  God will reward us for doing what is right, and we will better be able to see and follow His plan for our life.  Once you count the pieces, if there are any missing you could say that it is always hard to admit when you’ve done something wrong, but coming clean is the right thing to do as well.

Object Lesson | Computer Monitor

Source (Where I saw it): Original

Supplies: A monitor, or picture of a monitor

Preparation - None

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: Our life should display God!

Illustration: Show the kids the monitor.  Ask who has ever seen one of these before?  Who knows what it does?  That's right it is a computer monitor.  A monitor only works when it is hooked up to a computer.  It will have no image and stay blank or in a test mode.  It is up to the computer and what the computer is putting out as to what will show up on the monitor.

Explanation of point: The question is what would your life look like if it had a monitor hooked up to it?  Would it display God's love, joy, peace, etc?  We should live our life in a way that when people look at as they can see that we are different in how we treat others.  Our life should put God on display!

Object Lesson | Pie In The Face

Source (Where I saw it): Original

Supplies: A pie, a volunteer willing to be randomly pied

Preparation: None

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: We need to choose to follow God!

Illustration: Show the kids the pie.  Explain to them that a pie has a few different uses.  It can look good in a window, like an advertisement, for people to see so that they will buy things from a bakery.  It can be eaten, and fill you up.  It also can be used to smash into someone's face! (At this point smash the pie into the predetermined and setup volunteer).

Explanation of point: The idea is that there are right ways and wrong ways to use just about anything.  Although it is really funny when someone gets pied, it can't be used for its original main purpose of being eaten.  It was fun in the moment but now it is destroyed.  When it comes to our lives we have a choice to make.  God has a main purpose for our lives that is great, but it is up to us to follow it.  Sometimes bad things are fun in the moment, but they can end up destroying our lives.

Object Lesson | Bubbly Excitement!

Source (Where I saw it): Original

Supplies: Alka Seltzer, Glass of Water

Preparation: Fill up a glass with water.

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: When God becomes a part of our life, we should be excited!

Illustration: Show the kids the glass of water.  Explain to them that when God becomes a part of our life it should change us, give us excitement and joy.  This here is an alka seltzer tablet.  Watch what happens when I drop it into the glass of water.  It is completely changing the  water.  The water is now moving and bubbling.

Explanation of point: Explain to the boys and girls that the tablet is like when we ask God to be a part of our life.  We should change and be different.  It is exciting to know that God has a plan for us and we should be jumping around and excited about what God will do in our life.  We shouldn’t be able or want to hide what God has done!

Object Lesson | Ball Pit Fun!

Source (Where I saw it): Original

Supplies: Inflatable swimming pool, plastic balls

Preparation: Blow up the swimming pool and fill it with the plastic balls.

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: God wants us to jump in and be excited!

Illustration: Explain to the kids about the first time someone sees a ball pit.  Maybe you look at it and strikes you as something amazing.  Now there are different kinds of kids.  Some will go over to the ball pit and see everyone else in it, and walk away.  It doesn’t interest them at all.  Some other kids may go over to the ball pit, pick up a few balls and then slowly get in and try it out.  Other kids will go right ahead and jump in without a care in the world (Jump into the ball pit!  Probably will have to do some immediate crowd control here as well)

Explanation of point: Explain to the boys and girls that when it comes to a relationship with God, there are the same kinds of people.  There are those that want nothing to do with God, there are those who slowly build a relationship with God, and then there are those who basically go bananas!  They jump right, and get excited about what God is doing in them and through them.  They get so excited they build their relationship with God and then share it with others.  They jump all in.  God wants us to jump all in, and see the great big plan that He has for us.  We need to be excited for God.

Object Lesson | Cowbell Movie Theater

Source (Where I saw it): Original

Supplies: Cowbell

Preparation: None

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: We need to treat people how we want to be treated

Illustration: Ask the kids how many of them have been to the movies.  Ask some of them what movies they have seen recently.  Now ask them if they have ever been in a movie theater where there was someone being loud, noisy, and just ruining the movie.  How about ever had someone blast a cowbell while trying to watch the movie (ring the cowbell loud)? How many of you enjoy that?!  Now how many of you have ever been real loud during a movie?  Could you imagine two people trying to top each other?  (Start yelling and ringing the cowbell)  That would make for a horrible movie!

Explanation of point: Explain to the boys and girls that if we want respect and for people to treat us nice, then we have to do the same back.  We need to treat other people how we want to be treated!

Object Lesson | Big Effect

Source (Where I saw it): Original

Supplies: Food Coloring, Glass of Water

Preparation: None

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: Even one choice can have a big effect!

Illustration: Show the kids the glass of water.  Explain to them that every choice we make can have a very big effect.  Show the kids the food coloring and tell them what it is.  Then place a few drops of food coloring in the water.

Explanation of point: Explain to the boys and girls that just a drop or two of food coloring changed the whole thing.  Just like in our lives, a few choices can effect not only us but people and things around us.  It is why we need to chose to listen to God and let Him help us make our choices.  We want our choices to have a good effect!

Wednesday, May 18, 2011

Object Lesson | Candy Effect

Source (Where I saw it): Original

Supplies: A couple of pieces of candy

Preparation: None

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: Every choice has a good or bad effect

Illustration: Show the kids the candy.  Explain to them that you have a few choices to make.  You have so many pieces of candy and with each one you can either eat it, give it away, throw it away, stomp on it, etc.  Each decision has a different effect.  Giving it away could make someone happy.  Eating it would taste good.  Stomping on it might make a lot of you angry.

Explanation of point:  You see boys and girls, every choice we make in our lives can have various effects on ourselves and those around us.  The more we let God guide our choices the more we will be able to have a positive effect on those around us.

Object Lesson | Treasure Box

Source (Where I saw it): Original

Supplies: Prizes (Like a prize box, store, or whatever you use for positive reinforcement), Cup, Table

Preparation: None

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: There is nothing we can do to fix our relationship with God.

Illustration: Have a table up front with a cup on it.  Now ask for a volunteer.  Tell the volunteer that if they can knock over that cup without moving, talking, or doing anything, then they get the prize.  Of course no one will be able to do this.  Have a few volunteers try.  Some one will obviously try to cheat, but say that is not possible.  At some point for one of the kids you go over and knock the cup over and give them the prize.

Explanation of point: The point boys and girls is that without me knocking that cup over there is no way for you to get that prize.  You were stuck and helpless to receive the reward.  When Adam and Eve sinned there was a huge gap between us and God.  We where stuck, helpless to fix what we had broken.  We no longer could have a relationship with God.  But God had a plan and sent His son to die for us.  Jesus died on the cross and then 3 days later rose from the grave!  The disciples went to the tomb and it was empty!  Now it is up to us to accept the gift God has given us - a relationship with Him!

Object Lesson | Me vs the Candy Bar

Source (Where I saw it): Original

Supplies: Dollar, Dime, Candy Bar.

Preparation: None

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: We should give God our best, not our leftovers.

Illustration: Show the dollar.  Explain to them that many of the kids come in and their parent’s give them a dollar for the offering.  Now maybe as they walk down the hall the see the candy machine!  They hear a snickers bar calling their name with all of its chocolatey goodness, but instantly they are sad because they have no money.  Wait!  Yes they do!  The dollar their parents gave them.  The snickers bar is only 90 cents so they will still have something to but in the offering in church!

Explanation of point:  The point boys and girls is that many people only give a part of themselves to God and hold certain things back.  People use excuses like I can’t help with that or I don’t think God will mind if I do this thing over here.  For us to truly find out and live out God’s full plan for our lives sometimes we have to sacrifice the snickers bar and give all we have to God!

Object Lesson | Donut vs Munchkin

Source (Where I saw it): Original

Supplies: Donut and Donut Hole.

Preparation: Make sure to have a donut and donut hole of the same kind.

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: We should give God our best, not our leftovers.

Illustration: Show the kids the donuts.  Ask them which one they would prefer - the whole donut or the little munchkin.  Which one would they keep if they had to give one to someone else.  Most people would keep the big part and then give away the munchkin.

Explanation of point:  The point is that many of us do this with God.  The munchkin is made from the leftover parts of the donut.  We many times give God just what is leftover instead of of first and best.  For example, when we first wake up and play video games instead of thanking God for the day is an example where we had a chance to give God our first instead of just maybe praying quickly as you got out the door to school.

Object Lesson | Very Smart Phone

Source (Where I saw it): Original

Supplies: Landline phone, smart phone

Preparation: None

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: When we are baptized in the Holy Spirit, we open ourselves up to all that God has for us.

Illustration: Show the kids the landline phone and explain that when we are saved we have a direct line with God.  Back in Bible times this wasn’t the case.  People had to go through priests and all sorts of stuff to talk with God.  Now once we ask God to be in our life we can automatically talk with Him and have a relationship with God.  Just like picking up the phone and calling someone, but even better!  Now show the kids the cell phone.  Explain that a cell phone can go anywhere just like how God is with us everywhere we go.  Now explain how this isn’t just a cell phone, it is a smart phone.  It can go online, it has GPS, it has games, you can write documents on there, etc.

Explanation of point: You see boys and girls, the disciples wanted more.  They listened to Jesus and waited for the Holy Spirit.  When they were baptized with the Holy Spirit they completely opened themselves to everything God had for them.  When they did that, they changed.  They no longer were afraid to fully go after the plans God had for them.  Just like how this smart phone is completely unlocked and can do so much, when we fully go after all the things God has for us, including the Holy Spirit, we can see the full amount of what God wants to do in our lives.

Object Lesson | Made Different

Source (Where I saw it): Original

Supplies: Glass of Water, Food Coloring

Preparation: Have a glass filled with water

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: When we are baptized in the Holy Spirit, we open ourselves up to all that God has for us.

Illustration: Show the kids the glass of water and explain that when we give our life to God he makes us clean and whole again.  The bible tells us that when we open ourselves to the Holy Spirit we are asking for everything that God has for us.  Pour a few drops of food coloring into the water.

Explanation of point: The disciples were changed when they were baptized in the Holy Spirit, just like this water is a different color now.  They were open to everything that God had for them, and they no longer were afraid to fully chase the plan that God had for their lives.

Object Lesson | Object To Remember

Source (Where I saw it): Original

Supplies: An object that has sentimental value, Communion supplies.

Preparation: None

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: Communion is a reminder of what Jesus did for us!

Illustration: Show the kids the object.  Explain to them how and why this object is important to you.  Ask the the kids if they have an object that means something to them.  Maybe it reminds of them of a friend or parent.  Maybe it reminds them of a something that happened.  We all have reminders.

Explanation of point: That is exactly what communion is all about!  When we take communion we are remembering what Jesus did for us.  Show the boys and girls the communion pieces and explain that these little objects really have no value.  It is what we are remembering when we take communion in church.  We are remembering that Jesus loves us and died for us!  He wants us to live a great life and go to heaven, but we have to make that choice.

Object Lesson | Name Tag

Source (Where I saw it): Original

Supplies: Your Tag

Preparation: None

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: When we are baptized, it shows the world that we made a choice that our heart belongs to God!

Illustration: Show the kids the lanyard.  Show them that it has a picture of you along with the name of the children’s church here and an id as a hero, staff, etc.

Explanation of point: Explain to them that the lanyard shows that you are a children’s worker.  The lanyard is proof that you are a children’s worker.  When we are baptized we are making our tag with God!

Object Lesson | Alka Seltzer Mix!

Source (Where I saw it): Original

Supplies: Glass of Water, Alka seltzer tablet

Preparation - Have a glass filled with water

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: When we are baptized, it shows the change that has happened on the inside.

Illustration: Show the kids the alka selter tablet.  Explain to them how the alka seltzer tablet is a type of medicine that helps calm your stomach.  How it works is you add it to a glass of water and it fizzes and bubbles and becomes one with the water.  There is no way to separate it now!  I can’t get that tablet back, it has been changed forever into something new.

Explanation of point: When we are baptized it represents the change in our life.  When we go in the water and come out it shows everyone that we have a new life with God!

Object Lesson | Pick A Card!

Source (Where I saw it): Children's Ministry Vault

Supplies: Deck of cards

Preparation: Practice the card trick!

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: We aren't random, God made us exactly how He wanted!

Illustration: For this object lesson, I actually used a card trick I already knew.  There are many easy card tricks out there that you can learn quickly and will amaze the students.  Basically you do the card trick and reveal to the child before they even look at the card what it is they have chose.

Explanation of point: You see boys and girls just like I knew the card before you looked, God knew what we would be like before we were born.  God loves us soooo much and made us special.  He has a plan for each and every one of us.  God knows what is best for us, because He already knows what is going to happen.  We should trust that He has a plan for us!

Object Lesson | Not By Chance!

Source (Where I saw it): Original

Supplies: Dice

Preparation: None

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: We aren't random, God made us exactly how He wanted!

Illustration: Show the kids the dice.  Ask them what they are and what they are used for.  Even roll them a few times and ask the kids to guess which number will come up.

Explanation of point: You see boys and girls the number that comes up each time is random.  I can’t make it roll a six or seven, it is just luck.  We aren’t just luck though.  God didn’t just throw a bunch of pieces together to make you.  God chose you and made you exactly how He wanted and intended.  We aren’t just a roll of the dice, we are special and God has called us!

Object Lesson | Don't Lose Your Heart!

Source (Where I saw it): Idea came from Jon Alexis, with some original modifications.

Supplies: Paper, Scissors, Candy, and Bigger Prizes.

Preparation: Cut out as many little hearts as you have students.

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: Only God can keep our heart perfect!

Illustration: This is a two part object lesson.  As the students walk in hand them a hear and tell them, “This is your heart today,” and nothing else.  Have some other leaders very casually during pre service activities ask some students if they will trade their heart for a piece of candy.

Explanation of point: Part two of this object lesson should be at the end, and here is the explanation to the students.  Boys and girls how many of you still have your heart?  Hold them up and let me see them.  Today some of you were offered to give away your heart for candy, and many of you gave it away.  Others of you kept your heart, but during the day you lost it, or took really bad care of it and it is torn and crumpled.  Now some of you elected to keep your heart, you protected it.  Those of you who still have your heart intact get a prize out of the prize box this morning.  You see boys and girls, in life there will be a lot of choices to make and you have to decide where your heart will be.  Will it be with God?  God will protect your heart, He will love you, be faithful, and will never fail.  A lot of people though refuse to give their heart to God and instead give it to worldly things, like drugs, and alcohol.  Other people try to hold on to their own heart, but it gets beat up and heart by people.  If you want your heart to stay pure, and whole then God is the one who truly will love you and keep it safe.

Add On: If you have a change bag (Will have a post on this soon), you can explain to the kids that God can change a heart that is torn and broken and make it new again.  If you don't have a change bag, here is one to check out at amazon, it has a zipper on the bottom for extra coolness:  Change Bag W/ Zipper

Object Lesson | Separate Water

Source (Where I saw it): Original

Supplies: Water, Food Coloring, Salt

Preparation: None

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: Nothing can separate us from God's love!

Illustration: Show the kids the water and ask them what color it is.  Now add in food coloring to change the color of the water.  Notice the color change.  Now add salt.  Now not only does the water look different, but it tastes different.

Explanation of point: Boys and girls, it would be almost impossible to separate everything I just put in here back into the original water.  In the same way, God’s love can never be separated from us.  He loves us sooooooo much!

Object Lesson | Creating Wind

Source (Where I saw it): Original

Supplies:  A fan, and a pile of torn up paper

Preparation: Have the fan plugged in or have batteries in it, and have it sitting across a table with a pile of ripped up paper.

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: Just because we can't see God with our eyes, doesn't mean we can't see the effects of God in our lives.

Illustration: Come to the front and show the kids the paper, and the fan.  Now turn on the fan and have the paper fly all over the room.  Ask the kids how the paper moved?  That’s right the fan blew them in the air, but how did that happen?  I didn’t see the fan walk over, pick up, and throw the paper all around.

Explanation of point: You see boys and girls the fan created wind.  We can’t see the wind, but we know it exists because it pushed the paper all over.  It’s the same with God!  We may not be able to see God, but we can see all the things He does for us.

Object Lesson | Building Blocks

Source (Where I saw it): Original

Supplies:  Set of building blocks

Preparation: None

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: Believing that God exists is a major part of the foundation of being a Christian.

Illustration:  Show the kids the building blocks, and start building a pyramid with them.  Explain to the boys and girls how every building has a support structure, a foundation, and without it no building could stand.  Even this little structure I’m building would be useless without the bottom blocks.  Pull out one of the bottom blocks and have the whole thing fall.

Explanation of point: You see boys and girls the foundation and support structure are critical!  Even in the building we are in now, if the foundation broke we would all be in big trouble.  In our lives, one of the basic foundation and structure points is our belief that God exists.  You can’t hope to live a life for Him if you aren’t sure about Him even existing.  Now we all doubt sometimes, and that’s ok, but deep down you must decide to trust in God.

Object Lesson | Dollar

Source (Where I saw it): PleaseConvinceMe.com

Supplies: A Dollar and something to put it in

Preparation: None

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point - We need not look any further then ourselves for proof that God exists!

Illustration:  Show the kids the dollar.  Explain to them how detailed the dollar is and all the information it contains.  It is an incredible piece of paper!  Now ask them how the dollar got into the object.  That’s right someone had to put it in there!

Explanation of point: You see boys and girls the dollar didn’t just create it self and then jump into the object.  When we have doubts about whether God exists or not, we don’t need to look any further than ourselves for proof that He does.  Look at how detailed we were made.  How amazing it is that we can breathe without thinking about it.  God made us and has a plan for us!

Object Lesson | Calendar Change

Source (Where I saw it): Original

Supplies: Two Calendars, one old (As old as you can get) and one current.

Preparation: None

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: It is our choice to follow God's plan!

Illustration:  Show the kids the two calendars.  Ask them what you are holding.  Explain to them yes thats right these are calendars.  Now I have a calendar from 1977 and one from this year 2011.  Which one do you guys think I should use for this year?  Well of course I have to use the one from this year 2011.  If I used this old one I would have a lot of dates wrong and of course this calendar has already been used.

Explanation of the point:  You see boys and girls if we always do the things we have always done nothing will change and it actually messes us up.  Things are always changing and so are we.  It is up to us how we change though.  We want to plan and change for the better!  We want to say that we are closer to God, and following God’s plan for our lives better this year than last year!

Object Lesson | White Board

Source (Where I saw it): Original

Supplies:  A white board, dry erase markers, eraser

Preparation: None

The object lesson & how I used it...

Main Point: We need to fill up our life with God's choices!

Illustration:  Come to the front and show the kids the white board.  Tell them to imagine that this white board was their life.  As we live each day we fill in the board sometimes good and sometimes bad.  Ask the kids for some different things they can do that are good and bad.  Take 3-5 good things and 3-5 bad things.  Examples would be: Good - Visit Grandparents, clean room, listen to parents - Bad - fight with siblings, talk back to parents, not listen to teachers.  Make sure to write these things on the board.  Then explain to them that the New Years is a time to evaluate last year and try and make changes for this year.  Erase the board and ask the kids what will you fill in your life this year?
